Recently purchased this set. After hearing their CD of the Schubert quintet .Which I was very impressed with. They maintain the same performance style here: Very clean articulation, an ability to dig deep into individual phrases with great passion, but without loosing the overall line of the movement. In particular i would like to single out Ms. Belcea for outstanding first violin work. So passionate , so musical, without loosing control. A powerful musical force who one senses dominates the quartet as a whole. The absence of a powerful first violinist is what in the later years of the Budapest Quartet is what in retrospect , when I listen to their performances now, was a detriment. Not so here! Listen, if you can to the Busch Quartet in Beethoven to hear the musical dominance of Adolf Busch........ I could give countless examples of certain movements or phrases which were so musical, so passionate and often refreshingly new to me who has listened to these pieces for over half a century.
