Another excellent version of the Schubert cello quintet D963, this one by Vienna PO colleagues. It reminds me of three other recordings:the Lindsays/ASV Schubert quintet , the Guarneri/RCA version with Bernard Greenhouse and the Kuchl/Staar/Bartolemey MozartDivertimento k563/Eloquence (another VPO personnel winner. The tonal beauty and instrumental virtuosity of the Wellers is similar to that of the Guarneris/Greenhouse.They combined with interpretive depth which dramatizes Schubert's bi-polarity, e.g. the heavenly beauty/stillness of muchof the second movement interrupted by a horrifying storm which parallels that in the second movement of Schubert's ninthsymphony D944. The Quarttsatz is an equally potent filler. I know many fewer versions of the quintet than JSA in hiscomprehensive review, but consider the Wellers full peers of the other favorites versions mentioned above. I would add Emerson/DG,Stern/Casals/Sony, and Amadeus/DG
