This lovely recording includes works for strings by Aurthur Benjamin (1893-1960), Bernard Stevens (1916-1983), Andrzej Panufnik (1914-1991), Arnold Bax (1883-1953), and Lennox Berkeley (1903-1989). The recordngs by Benjamin, Stevens, Panufnik, and Bax were broadcast originally on the BBC on January 31, 1961, and the Berkeley was broadcast on March 20, 1961. The recordings are performed by the Boyd Neel Orchestra, and the London Chamber Orchestra.

Lyrita has basically released on CD all its great commercial recordings in the last years. Now they pursue ones that were recorded 'in test mode', semi-amateurishly by its owner, and were never released before. These are in MONO, and, from what I have heard so far, not very good MONO. I would not mind that at all since the repertoire is intriguing, but to charge full price is an outrage.I will not cave until these find their right place in the market.
